Muita gente ficou chocada em 1987 quando o grupo inglês The Cult lançou o disco Electric, claramente um trabalho de hard rock/heavy metal, com direito até a cover de "Born To Be Wild", do Steppenwolf. Afinal, The Cult tinha em seu passado uma inegável ascendência punk e gótica (na época um mero sub-gênero punk), estilos da banda Southern Death Cult, do vocalista Ian Astbury. O guitarrista Billy Duffy tinha um passado ainda mais sórdido. Conta a lenda que ele apresentou Johnny Marr a uma guitarra (posso dizer de testemunho pessoal que Marr e o instrumento jamais se tornaram íntimos) e ainda dividiu o palco com o lamentável Morrissey na banda punk Nosebleeds.
Porém, tanto Astbury quanto Duffy tinham um talento latente esperando melhores companhias para despertar. Juntos, formaram o Death Cult, depois reduzido para The Cult. Quem se surpreendeu com a "guinada roqueira" de Electric deveria ter ouvido com mais atenção o trabalho anterior da banda, Love, que a Caverna traz aqui em versão com duas faixas extras. Misturada a uns últimos ecos góticos há uma forte dose de psicodelismo e já um bom cheiro de hard rock.
